This was the beginning of our 5th year with Poseidon Diving Station in Sri Lanka. While part of their team was busy opening their other location in Trincomalee, north east of the Country, a big part of the Poseidon Family was still on Hikkaduwa, south west, as, despite the approach of the end of the season, the place was very busy.
On top of that, a group 9 people decided to take over the place: US! The “Want to Go Pro” people!
The February/March IDC in Nusa Lembongan, Indonesia had a very special chemistry between 4 candidates and their Course Director. It is not every day that you get an ambiance that makes you forget about time, heat, rain, stress and any other little factors that could affect concentration and motivation.
It might be the shortest month of the year, but it doesn’t mean the action is less present on the Dive-Careers calendar. Here is a summary of what we’ve done last month, as usual…around the globe! Within 4 different locations, there is in February a total of 31 Dive Professional coming from 14 different countries who completed their pro level with us. Lets starts off with Instructor Development Course and why not talk about first… The Philippines!
It is still strange for me to say that (in a positive way). Well, little did I know that my Open Water Course would turn into a new passion and open the way into the new life that made me the happiest person ever. After my way from Open Water Student to Divemaster at Scuba Education Amsterdam, I researched long and carefully for a good School/Place to become an Instructor. I decided for the Team of Diving-Careers after I had exchanged emails and a Skype call with Mark.
Becoming a dive professional with Sea Spirit Diving Resort (Taormina, Sicily) and start your dive career in any part of the world you want. Sea Spirit in cooperation with Mark Soworka make this a reality. Our Sicily IDC Candidates are spread out all over the world to make their dream come true and work as a dive instructor. Some of our new dive instructors started to work in Koh Tao, Thailand, others moved to the Maldives and Dominican Republic. Some IDC Candidates end up working in the Sea Spirit Team, continuing their dive career in the Mediterranean Sea!
Nick completed his PADI Dive Instructor trianing in Sri Lanka with Dive-Careers.com then returned to work weekends as a dive instructor in Dubai, maintaining a real job during the weekdays. Now plans are full in motion to make teaching diving his full time career.
Beaches, Sceneries and lots of sharks!
Since I started teaching in the different locations we offer at Dive-Careers, there has never been a place better than another, but they all have their little something and all fantastic in their own way.
Let me give you an idea how its like…. This is how my adventure looks like. A bit from the past and from the future.
A great start to the year of PADI Instructor Development programmes on Koh Tao, Thailand. Excellent candidates for both February and January Koh Tao IDCs. Great fun and a wonderful time as the reviews attest.
With our upcoming IDC on the 19th of April in Lembongan, we decided to write a blog dedicated to this location so that you can all realize that completing an Instructor Development course in that location could be a one in a life time experience.
Welcome to an IDC paradise!
View of the volcano that overlooks your Amed, Bali IDC
When it’s time to escape from the busy area of Bali province, it’s time to head North east. Direction: Amed. http://www.dive-careers.com/indonesia-diving-internship-bali.html
Driving through fields, green zone, monkeys, Luwak Coffee area and breath taken scenery with the sea on one side and the dormant volcano on the other…the 2 hours drive in between Sanur/Denpasar and Amed goes pretty quick as your eyes will have a lot do absorb.
Enjoying the introduction by Regional Director Jonas Samuelsson to life as a PADI Dive Professional
It was a great evening, allowing people who are interested in becoming PADI Dive Professionals and those PADI PRO’s who want to take it to the next level, the chance to listen to a presentation full with opportunities for working in the diving world. Even better, there was the possibility to ask questions to experienced PADI Professionals and discuss about several topics like ‘how is it to work on a live-a-board?’ or ‘how is it like to work in the Maldives or Thailand?’
Sicily SCUBAPRO Seminar as part of Dive-Careers.com Italy IDC
On the 13th of October, 2016, during the IDC from dive-careers-europe.com, we had the honour to welcome SCUBAPRO Technical Director Gilbert de Coriolis at the ATAHOTEL Naxos Beach in Giardini-Naxos, Sicily, Italy. It was going to be a day full of passion for scuba dive equipment and brilliant tips for our PADI IDC-participants. SCUBAPRO Sales Director of EMEA Gianluca Bugli and Area Manager Federico Garaventa also attended, adding a marketing perspective to an incredible dive equipment seminar
Aperitivo Sicily style during the Scubapro seminar on our Sicily IDC, Italy.
From 09.00am in the morning we could fasten our seatbelts, in a few minutes we were blown away by the passion and enthusiasm that Gilbert spread throughout the conference room about the developments of scuba diving regulators in the last 50 years and the technology behind it. Gilbert took us on his journey, taking us from piston and diaphragm first stages, to a precise explanation of the differences between unbalanced, balanced and overbalanced first stages. Holding different parts of first stages in our hands, showing the newest models and listening to explanations about several second stages, we were taken on a journey through regulator development. Terms like ‘inhalation effort’, ‘instant flow’ and ‘hydrostatic pressure’ were explained clearly in a relaxed, passionate manner. Gilbert also shared with us the new innovations and developments at SCUBAPRO that continue to maintain that initial company goal, to have the safest and the best dive equipment on the market.

In July 2016 we conducted our first PADI Dive Instructor Course, the IDC, in Amed, Bali, with Two Fish Divers. The location was perfect for dive instructor training with such easy logistics, helping create such a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. We conducted the IDC at Suriya Rainbow resort, Amed, Bali. Calssroom is in the on site classroom, 15 meters away is the swimming pool and jump over the pool side to the beach and we had our open water destination. A thoroughly enjoyable IDC with Andrea and Melissa participating and Matt staffing. Great location to teach in and eagerly awaiting the next IDC in Amed starting the 23rd of October 2016.

Half way through the IDC we had a GoPro evening with some wine and some beer sponsored by PADI. It was a great chance to meet a load of dive instructors from the other dive centers in Amed. We had short talks about the state of Bali reefs by Reef Check representatives, Technical Diving with Yvonne from Two Fish, Free Diving wit Yokram Zekri from Ocean Prana and I looked at other opportunities in the dive industry. An excellent evening to look at many of the different paths you can take as a PADI Dive professional. We will do another evening like this when back in October.
And,most importantly during the Bali IDC we got to dive on some great artificial reefs. We conducted specialty training on both the Liberty wreck and artificial reefs of Jamyluk. Great dives and definitely a drawcard for completing your IDC in Amed, Bali.
I am looking forward to being back in Amed for another Bali IDC on October 23 2016. I had a great time on the July IDC and judging by the reviews, so did Mel and Andrea. Congratulations on becomign instructors and already finding successful careers. See you in Amed again soon.
